This Privacy Policy applies to the SideStash browser extension and the SideStash desktop application (collectively, "SideStash," "we," "our," or "the app"). Please read it alongside our Terms of Service.
1. Information We Do Not Collect
SideStash is designed from the ground up to operate without collecting, transmitting, or storing any personal information on external servers. Specifically, SideStash does not collect:
- Your name, email address, or any account credentials
- The content of your pins, notes, or saved text
- Your browsing history or the URLs of pages you visit
- Usage analytics, crash reports, or telemetry data
- IP addresses or device identifiers
- Any form of behavioral or advertising data
There are no SideStash servers. There is no SideStash account system. No data you create in SideStash is ever transmitted anywhere by SideStash itself.
2. What Is Stored Locally on Your Device
SideStash stores the following data exclusively on your local device using your browser's built-in storage (chrome.storage.local) or, in the case of the desktop app, local application storage:
- Your pins — text and images you have saved to your sidebar
- Your preferences — font size and other display settings
- Your license key — if you have purchased a Gold or Platinum upgrade, your Paddle license key is stored locally to authenticate your tier
- Your tier status — a string value ("free," "gold," or "platinum") reflecting your current license level
All of this data remains on your device. You can delete it at any time by removing the extension or uninstalling the desktop app.
3. Payments and Paddle
If you purchase a Gold or Platinum upgrade, your payment is processed by Paddle, our payment provider. Paddle acts as the Merchant of Record and handles all payment data, including your credit card information, billing address, and transaction records.
SideStash never sees, stores, or processes your payment information. Paddle's handling of your data is governed by Paddle's Privacy Policy. We encourage you to review it.
The only payment-related data SideStash receives is your license key, which Paddle delivers to you by email. You enter that key into SideStash yourself. SideStash may contact Paddle's license validation API to confirm the key is valid; this request contains only the license key itself and no personal information.
4. Chrome Web Store
SideStash is distributed through the Chrome Web Store, which is operated by Google. Google's collection and use of data in connection with the Chrome Web Store is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. SideStash does not receive any personal data from Google as a result of your installation of the extension.
5. Children's Privacy
SideStash is not directed at children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect any information from children. Because SideStash collects no personal data from anyone, this is largely moot — but we state it for completeness.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of SideStash after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. Because SideStash collects no personal data, we do not anticipate significant changes to this policy.
